We traveled via Continental Airlines FIRST CLASS complements of the owner of Subscriber Services, Dave Keown. Guess that's my bonus for the year, well worth it! The flight went from DIA to Houston, TX, and from there to Liberia Costa Rica.
The Liberia airport is very small, so getting through Customs and Immigration was quick. Unlike Mexico, there wasn't a bunch of people trying to sell timeshares, which was a relief.
We were met by Dave's ranch hand who gave us a ride to the car rental agency, where we rented a Toyota Rav4. We were told that we would need a four wheel drive vehicle, which as it turns out was wise information! We also were told to get a GPS, which also turned out to be invaluable!
Afterwords, we followed Dave's ranch hand to our hotel for the night, the Hotel Guayacon in Guayabo. We were kind of concerned about this, since the room turned out to be a more or less a dorm room with a very thin foam mattress for the bed.
After we got settled, we visited a 'fiesta' a local company was putting on for its employees. A couple of the people spoke English, and welcomed us to have a beer and some bar-be-que with them. They were very friendly, however the karaoke was loud and most of the singing terrible!
